Sabrina Mayhew
Registered Nurse and Yoga Enthusiast, founder of Angel Pillow Project
www.angelpillow.org
Sabrina was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. She began an active yoga practice following her treatment and embarked on a journey of emotional and physical transformation. Sabrina felt that yoga supported her true healing, on many different levels, following her myriad of medical treatments. Through the practice of yoga, Sabrina was able to open up, release pain and tightness and break up scar tissue which restricted her arm mobility. As stiffness in her joints and incision areas began to soften, Sabrina found her heart opening. Her time on the mat allowed a calmness to return and aided her to face and release unresolved emotions and fear which resulted from her cancer diagnosis and treatment. Sabrina is the founder of The Angel Pillow Project, a non-profit 501-c3 organization in which heart-shaped pillows, created by breast cancer survivors, are donated to those currently undergoing treatment to soothe physical and emotional pain immediately after surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
As a result of the profound personal benefits Sabrina derives from her yoga practice , she approached Lynn Medow of the Yoga by Design Foundation with the idea of offering classes to those going through treatment. Thus, Reach Yoga was born and is a collaboration between the Angel Pillow Project and Yoga by Design Foundation.
